A MAN was airlifted from packed Bournemouth beach with suspected head and neck injuries.
Thousands of visitors watched as part of the beach was cordoned off while a helicopter approached.
It is believed the casualty may have been injured diving into shallow water.
Beach lifeguards were first on the scene, attending to the man until paramedics arrived.
He was airlifted by the Coastguard helicopter and flown to a landing site, before being transported by ambulance to Poole Hospital where emergency medics were standing by.
It is not thought his injuries were life-threatening.
RNLI lifeguards and South Western Ambulance Service paramedics were involved in the rescue.
A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed: “We received a call at 1.16pm about a male with suspected head and neck injuries.
“We sent along a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew.”
An RNLI spokesman said: “RNLI lifeguards were first on the scene, helped to immobilise the casualty and administer first aid until the paramedics and coastguard helicopter arrived on scene.”
