What is wrong with society these days? I know I’m not wrong because I am not a problem AT ALL.

First of all, albeit a little late, I would like to send my condolences to the family and friends of murdered solider, Lee Rigby, who was brutally attacked on the 22nd of May, by what I would call terrorists – people who inflicted terror to the nation.

Although what these ‘men’ did was disgustingly wrong and immoral, I couldn’t help but notice the streams of ignorant and racist drivel stemming from the fingers of Facebookers, tweeters and social networkers alike. These men were of a certain ethnicity and religion, however, that does not warrant everyone within the same ethnicity and religion to be tarred with the same brush. At times like this we as a nation should come together, not fall apart.

I write this 20 Years after the death of murdered victim of racism, Stephen Lawrence and it pains me to say that evidentially justice truly hasn’t been served. Now, a daily custom of life for many is to utilise the internet or waste our lives on social networking sites which, ironically, are rather anti-social.

On these networking sites I see videos, posts and pictures all riddled with racial terms, slurs and offensive slogans against ethnicities, cultures and religions. Personally I believe the videos are the worst. White people attacking black people, yelling “go back to where you came from”.

Why do I feel it’s the worst? Because it physically shows the narrow minded, uneducated ignorance of some people in society who make unnecessary comments about people just based on the hue of their skin, their mother tongue or the God they pray to.

Arguments against racism are slightly ironic. ‘Racists are victims of their own society’, yet they make different races feel victims of their own society. I highly doubt that someone who claims not to be a racist, but matter of fact are, would offend the race of their ‘culturally diverse’, ‘tropical’ and ‘exotic’ Caribbean holiday, or call local people names on their budget package holiday to a ‘foreign country’ full of ‘foreign people’ that cook the food that they eat… Would they?

Hmmm… I doubt that.

This makes it really difficult to comprehend why racism still exists and why not nearly enough is being done about it. I do not condone racism at all. I think it is disgusting and should be punishable by… EDUCATION, because it seems many racist comments are undecided, prejudiced and uneducated and often flow from the mouths of those who have not been educated sufficiently.

This is 21st century England, a very multicultural place to live, and if consideration of others is not taken into account at the present, then it’s going to become a very peculiar place to live.

Don’t hate, appreciate.

Have a good month.
