THE clock is ticking down to the start of the eagerly-anticipated Wareham Carnival Week, which starts on July 8.

Seven days of events, including the Grand Carnival Procession, are set to attract bumper crowds this year.

This year’s carnival theme is ‘Victoriana’ and organisers expect a host of colourful floats to wind their way through the town centre to the quayside.

The week’s events kick off on Monday, July 8, with the usual film night at the Rex Cinema. This year’s movies include 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

Other attractions leading up to the Sunday procession include a ghost walk around the town’s haunted hot-spots, a safari supper at local pubs and restaurants, a cycle trail through Ware-ham Forest and The Golden Bridge Awards.

A carnival spokesman explained: “This will be our third year with this event and it goes from strength to strength.

“We, the people of Wareham and visitors alike take the opportunity to honour the local bus-inesses, attractions, celeb-rities and characters in the area and invite the nominees to the celebrated awards which this year will be in olde tyme.”

On the eve of the main procession, which is set for its usual 3pm start, the Parish Hall, Wareham Quay, hosts a music hall show with diverse acts and cocktails.
