A BUSY route in Poole was closed for two hours after a dramatic head-on smash between two cars this morning.

The emergency services were called to Herbert Avenue at the junction of Bartlett Way, shortly before 10am.

A blue Peugeot 206, registered to a woman from Bournemouth, and a silver Vauxhall Astra, registered to a Wareham man were involved in the crash.

The occupants of the silver Astra were a couple in their seventies and the woman driving the Peugeot was in her sixties.

Police said all three people involved had suffered minor injuries and they were all taken to hospital.

Sergeant Lee Savage said: “This was only a minor injury collision, but all three people involved were taken to hospital.

“We thought we needed the fire brigade as we believed at the time one of the people involved was medically trapped, but that did not turn out to be the case.”

Two fire engines, three ambulances and four police cars attended the scene.

Herbert Avenue was closed between Ringwood Road and Sark Road while the scene was cleared and it reopened at 11.55am.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the two vehicles prior to the incident.

Anyone with information should contact Poole police traffic unit on 101 and leave a message for Sergeant Lee Savage, extension number 373.
