A MOTORCYCLIST has been taken to hospital by helicopter following a crash on the Horton Road near Wimborne this morning.

The Dorset Police helicopter transported the male rider, who is thought to have spinal injuries, to Southampton General Hospital.

Police on the scene told the Daily Echo that that rider, a man aged in his 20s or 30s, had not suffered life-threatening injuries.

The car was being driven by a woman in her 20s or 30s.

Diversions were put in place at the Horton Inn following the collision between the motorbike and a car, which took place just before 8.10am.

Three police cars and two ambulances attended the scene and a police investigation was launched to reconstruct the crash scene and determine where the crash occurred and lines of sight.

The road re-opened around 11.40am.

The accident involved a black Yamaha XVS 1100 bike, registered to a Wimborne man, and an orange Peugeot 106, which is registered to a woman from Wimborne.

The latest crash is close to the site where Sophie Crew lost her life following a collision with a school coach earlier this month.

In May, 59-year-old Ivan Tomlinson was also killed after a collision with a van close to the Horton Inn.

A police investigation is underway.

  • The collision happened on the Horton Road and not on the B3078 as believed earlier.
