A SERIES of fundraising events have been launched to ensure a little girl can have life-changing surgery this autumn.

Skye Cowan, six, suffers with cerebral palsy, but has been accepted for an operation in America that will alleviate her symptoms.

Now Blandford-based entertainment agency TDN Management has arranged a summer of fun to ensure the Parkstone youngster can raise almost £50,000 needed to go. As well as eight events at the Haven Hotel in Sandbanks, fundraising will take place at two family fun days, a charity skydive, and the unique Skye’s Challenge.

Tara Nix, who owns the company, said: “Skye’s Challenge will take place over three days from July 26. We’re gathering teams of three people to meet at Poole Town Football Club who will be given a list of challenges to do by the end of the weekend. You get points for each challenge completed, but only £20 to do them all.”

Among the challenges faced by teams is a stay in a five star London hotel.

Tara, who will take part in the skydive with colleague Sian Teasdale later this year, said: “We just want to do as much as we can to make sure Skye can go to America for her surgery. We’re covering everything from fetes to family fun days and Skye’s Challenge, so there’s something for everyone to get involved with.”

Skye hopes to receive the selective dorsal rhizotomy, or SDR, at the St Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri this October.

Mum Jo said: “The surgery is £48,500 by itself.

“Then there are flights and accommodation, and the physical therapy Skye will need three times a week for the following two years. It’s wonderful that people are being so helpful and supportive for Skye.”
