A KINSON mum has started a campaign to get a crossing installed on the busy main road where her daughter was hit by a motorbike.

Corinne Lovell, 41, was walking her daughter, Shannon, seven, to school at around 8.35am in the morning, when a motorcycle struck the little girl as she crossed Columbia Road.

Fortunately, Shannon escaped with just a few cuts and grazes on her face and a bruise to her leg, following the incident on June 6.

She said: “We were crossing the road and the traffic was built up on one side, whilst clear the other, but cars just won’t stop for you.

She added: “I looked both ways, then we crossed, but obviously the motorbike appeared from nowhere.

“As he came closer, I pushed the rider away from Shannon, so he didn’t fall on her, but the wing mirror clipped her and she fell over.

“He checked if she was okay and we took her to hospital just in case Shannon had any more serious injuries, but fortunately she felt well enough to go to school the next day.

“However, when we get to Columbia Road, she now grips my hand really tightly and is absolutely terrified.”

The School Crossing for Columbia Road Bournemouth Facebook page has currently got 357 ‘likes’ but Corinne is still looking for more people to show their support.

Ian Kalra, transportation services manager, said: “We will always investigate requests for highway crossings.

“Due to the limited funds available, such schemes are prioritised by taking into account factors such as the accident history and the numbers of pedestrians likely to use the crossing.

“The suitability of the site would also have to assessed to ensure that the crossing would be clearly visible to approaching drivers. When the petition has been submitted, we will give it due consideration.”
