A LORRY has become stuck under a bridge in Branksome this afternoon, causing traffic chaos in the area.

Police officers are currently at the scene of the incident in Bourne Valley Road, and traffic is being redirected.

However, eye-witness Lisa Rogers said it is “manic” for motorists.

“I was here about 20 seconds after it happened,” she said.

“The lorry is totally wedged under the bridge on one side. It’s about 11 foot six inches high, and it’s just trapped. The driver is fine, but a bit shaken – I think we all are.”

A Dorset Police spokesperson said officers may have to let the air out of the tyres to remove the blue and white Volvo box lorry, which is registered to a keeper in Stourbridge, Worcester.

“Network Rail has been advised and the lorry isn’t holding the bridge up,” she said.

“A couple of bricks have been dislodged from the bridge.”

She added that the incident was called in to police at 2.05pm by a serving officer.

The bridge is mainly used by depot trains, so it is believed that commuters are unlikely to be affected.
