THE Co-op has confirmed it is committed to building a new store at Hamworthy, Poole as it prepares to unveil yet more plans for the site.

Residents have been waiting for a permanent replacement store since the previous supermarket burnt down in August 2007.

Now revised plans are due to be revealed at drop-in sessions on Thursday at Hamworthy Library to seek the views of local people.

“We realise that the community has been without a permanent store for some time now,” said Mike Stone, planning manager for The Co-operative in the south west.

“There have been some issues that have meant out initial plans have needed to be revised, so we are really keen to get local people’s views on how our latest plans should shape up.

“The event has been organised to residents can see for themselves the drawings we have had done already, ask questions and pass comments face-to-face with the design and planning teams,” he added.

A series of planning applications has been submitted over the years to replace the 4,500 sq ft temporary cabin on the one acre site, but none has so far got off the drawing board.

This has led residents, frus-trated by the inaction, to call for another company to step in.

Commenting on Sandbanks residents opposing the Tesco store at the former Sandacres pub, Fred Winwood said: “Residents of Hamworthy would absolutely welcome Tesco to build on the Co-op site after waiting for five years.”

There will be drop-in sessions at the Blandford Road library from 4.30pm to 6.30pm and 7pm to 8.30pm with a presentation at 6.30pm.

Some of the latest products in the Truly Irresistible range will be there to try and for those unable to attend, display boards will be in the temporary store until the end of June.
