BOOZY the pony has that ‘morning after’ feeling after sparking a major rescue operation.

The five-year-old trapped his leg when trying to jump a gate at Abbot’s Court Farm at Winterborne Kingston.

He had to be sedated by a vet while a Bere Regis fire crew cut through the metal bars of the gate, James Macduff, who works on the Charborough Estate – which owns the farm – said: “Boozy is recovering. He has a bandage on his leg and some swelling.

“He needs to rest for a while and will probably need three weeks to recover.”

He added: “He was standing in the yard waiting to be fed and got over-excited. He did a half jump and got his leg stuck.”

A specially-trained animal rescue team from Poole fire station helped with the rescue.

Mr Macduff said his daughter Lexie, 11, had been “very concerned”.

“Once we’d got Boozy to calm down it went well,” he said.

Andy Stirling, station commander at Bere Regis, said: “The young owner of the pony was very happy to see him back on all fours. This sort of incident is unusual for Bere Regis crews.”
