A PARKSTONE woman is angered after the family pet was attacked by another dog whilst the owners walked on, she says.

Lyn Beer, was walking through Baiter Park with husband, Stuart, both 44, and pooch, Maggie, a 6-year-old Lhasa Apso, on a lead, on Monday, May 27, when a Staffordshire Bull Terrier approached them.

It bit Maggie on her back and side, which Lyn says that she was ‘hysterical’ about, and Stuart had to kick the dog to make it release Maggie, from its grip, as the other dog’s owners looked on.

Lyn said: “Now, she is grazed all over and the puncture marks on her back and ribs look like gunshot wounds.

“There was a woman, two men and a child with the two staffies, one of which was brindle and white, and the other was a tan colour.

“Afterwards, one of the people said to me: ‘Sorry, this has never happened before’.

“Then they continued chucking the ball for their two dogs.

“Maggie is our 13-year-old daughter, Imogen’s, dog and whilst she wasn’t too worried at first, once Maggie had come home from the vets she saw the puncture wounds and was quite upset.

“Now, we have to take the dog to the vets every other day for the next month, following her operation, so that the vet can keep an eye on her and she could need another operation at a later date.

“We were just so angry. Perhaps, if they had shown a little bit of remorse, it wouldn’t have been so bad, but to just carry on throwing the ball and playing with their dogs is not right.”

Jeff Morley, Team Manager at Borough of Poole, said: “We recognise the importance of exercising the dogs freely, but dog owners are fully responsible for their dog’s actions at all times.”
