THERE was traffic chaos on a Swanage road this afternoon after a double-decker bus and a lorry became jammed.

Shore Road was blocked off both ways between the A351 Victoria Avenue and Institute Road by the vehicles, which become stuck.

It had been reported that both the lorry and the bus, which were travelling in opposite directions, became wedged while trying to pass a parked van on the side of the road.

Police arrived at the scene to help direct traffic.

A spokesperson said: "We were called at about 3.10pm to report that a lorry and a bus have become stuck.

"The report said there was traffic chaos in the area."

The driver of a white van, legally parked at the side of the road, returned and moved his vehicle, allowing the two larger vehicles to free themselves.

After separating around 4.20pm, neither the truck nor the bus appeared to have sustained any major damage.

Local diversions, which had been put in place by Dorset Police, are set to be removed.
