Clayesmore Prep pupil Arthur Carpenter, pictured, has been chosen as a finalist for BBC Radio 2’s 500 Words Short Story Competition.
He has been placed in the top 25 in the age 10-13 category out of an incredible 90,000 entrants, with his compelling tale, Through the Keyhole.
This high profile BBC competition is being run in association with Hay Fever, the family and children’s programme for the Hay Festival, and was open to children 13 years and under, with two categories, nine years and under and 10-13 years.
Children were asked to write an original fictional story of no more than 500 words in length and the first round of the competition was judged by a band of teachers and librarians from across the UK.
Arthur has now been invited to the live broadcast of the Chris Evans Show at the Hay Festival on May 31 where the winners will be announced.
Successful gold medalists will win Chris Evans’ height in books (6’2”) plus 500 books for their school, silver medalists will win presenter Alex Jones’ height (5’6”), and bronze winners their own height in literature.
