Hundreds of mourners have attended the funeral of a Hampshire ambulance driver who was killed in a crash.

Members of the emergency services turned out in force to remember Gill Randall, who was taking an elderly man to Southampton General Hospital when her vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree.

Gill, 42, of Newlands Copse, Blackfield, and her patient, Jim Ironside, of Harts Way, Everton, both died in the crash on the A337 near Brockenhurst.

This afternoon between 300 and 400 people attended Gill's funeral at All Saints Church in Fawley.

Mourners included Hampshire's chief fire officer, John Bonney, and Will Hancock, chief executive of South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).

The hearse was accompanied by police and ambulance motorcycle outriders as it made its way to the church.

Six of Gill's colleagues carried her coffin into the 12th century building while other members of SCAS formed a guard of honour.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was due to hover over the church and dip its nose in salute, but was diverted to a road accident.

Gill's funeral was followed by a private service at Southampton Crematorium.
