COULD this be the world’s smallest camper van?

Who knows – but it is the latest creation in a long line of wacky automotive feats from Poole’s custom king Andy Saunders.

Andy’s new project has seen him and his coachbuilder Martin Ford create this pedal-powered holiday home.

And while Andy admits he's done it mainly as a PR stunt, it's certainly turning heads.

Based on a 1960s Butlins pedal cart, the living space is just 4ft 9in wide and 6ft 6in long, yet comes equipped with a bed, seating area, stove and sink.

Andy, who owns Kampers and Kars at Ringwood Road, said: “It was an idea that just sprang to mind about four or five weeks ago.

“We have done it really as an advertising gimmick. We had a little camper that was going for scrap. We’ve shortened it by 6ft and narrowed it by a foot.

"It’s a bicycle so it doesn’t need a licence or anything. We will take it to shows and put it out in the road outside the service station.

“This is just a month’s work and should pull people in like nobody’s business.”

Martin added: “It shows what we’re capable of. There are not many people that would do this or could do this. It’s all there and working and you could stay in it and you’ve got something to cook on and a sink to wash in.”

Over the years Andy’s creations have included a car that was just 21 inches tall, a two-seater Mini and a Citroen 2CV inspired by Picasso.

Last year he was asked by Top Gear and Nissan UK to build a road-going version of the Japanese manufacturer’s Deltawing racing car.
