DRUG users have been alerted after contaminated heroin killed two people and hospitalised three more in the Hampshire and Portsmouth areas.

A rogue batch of the drug – a sample of which is currently undergoing testing – presents “a significant and immediate risk” warns the Safer New Forest Partnership, which is urging addicts to be on their guard.

Cllr Jill Cleary, New Forest District Council portfolio holder for housing and communities, said: “If you come into contact with what you believe may be this contaminated substance, do not take it under any circum-stances.

“This batch of heroin has proved fatal for two people and presents a serious risk.

“If you think you may have purchased some, do not use it.

“Likewise, please seek immediate medical assistance if you believe you may have taken some of this substance.”
