A MEMORIAL garden dedicated to honouring service personnel killed in combat will be bursting into bloom this summer.
Ferndown’s Royal British Legion was given £100-worth of vouchers to buy plants for the war memorial garden outside the Church Road hall this week.
The vouchers were donated by Haskins Garden Centre, with general manager Simon Morris and outdoor manager Kevin Holmes presenting the tokens to Legion chairman Pat Birch.
Mr Morris said he was delighted to support the club’s ambition to enhance the memorial garden, where 48 servicemen from the First World War and 25 from the Second World War are honoured, alongside former Ferndown Upper School pupil John Thornton, killed in Southern Afghanistan in March 2008, whilst serving as a Royal Marine.
He said: “We look forward to seeing the replanted garden in a few months’ time.
“It could be a contender for a Ferndown in Bloom competition category.”
