THIS SHOCKING footage from a Channel 4 Dispatches programme shows mail workers from a depot in Bournemouth apparently kicking and throwing parcels around.

Many of the packages being thrown by workers at private mail company UK Mail were labelled 'fragile', Channel 4 say. Their undercover reporter says he saw packages being mishandled every day at the depot at Newton Business Park, Ringwood Road.

Chief executive Guy Buswell has apologised to customers and launched an inquiry.

Speaking to the Echo, he said they have launched an investigation, and any workers found to have behaved as exposed in the footage will face disciplinary action.

He said the firm’s management had spent hours trawling through CCTV footage from the depot but as yet hadn’t found any comparable examples of misbehaviour.

“I am very disappointed in this footage which doesn’t represent our business, it is almost unbelievable,” he said.

“I am also sorry for the majority of workers at our Bournemouth depot who work very hard to ensure parcels are delivered on time and intact.

“We carried out 29 million deliveries last year and we only had 486 damage claims.”

Dispatches is on Channel 4 at 8pm this evening.

Please note: The Echo is aware that the depot is geographically in Poole, but it is referred to as the Bournemouth depot by the company and Channel 4, so we are using this to avoid any confusion.
