FOUR men were injured - two of them seriously -when their car left a New Forest road and plunged down an embankment.

A black Renault Clio travelling on the A337 from Lyndhurst to Cadnam came off the road at around 12.05am on Monday.

It is believed to hit a tree before coming to rest. The front seat passenger, 21, and a back seat passenger aged 20, had to be freed by fire crews. They suffered serious injuries.

The driver and a 21-year-old back seat passenger were able to get out.

The men, all from the Southampton area, were taken by Southampton General Hospital.

PC Phil Pentelow from the Totton Roads Policing unit said: “I'd like to thank the drivers and passengers of several vehicles, including a coach, who stopped to help at the scene.

“I would like to hear from anyone with information about the collision or anyone who saw the Clio driving prior to it.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Totton Roads Policing unit on 101.
