A 25-year-old man arrested following a double fatal crash in the New Forest yesterday (Fri) has been bailed until July 29.

The driver of a blue Seat Alhambra from Brockenhurst was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after an ambulance collided with a tree on the A337 near Brockenhurst at around 9.35 am.

Both the car and the ambulance were travelling north on Lyndhurst Road when the accident happened.

The ambulance driver; a 42-year-old female technician, and the patient; an 88-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A male crew member and a male relative of the patient are still being treated in hospital for serious injuries.

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses to contact the Road Death Investigation Team at Eastleigh police station, quoting Operation Feldberg, on 101.
