IT’S sweet 16 for legendary Bournemouth club night Slinky, which celebrates its birthday next Friday at the O2 Academy Bournemouth, with a stellar line-up of world famous DJs including Judge Jules, Lee Haslam and Genix.

DJ and Slinky director Lee Haslam told 24Seven: “Celebrating 16 years in club land is no mean feat, and as with all our events, I have tried to put the best possible line up together that covers everyone’s tastes within the genre, which again is not easy.

“Then of course we have a true Slinky legend in Judge Jules who has played some amazing sets for us over recent years and then there is Simon Patterson. Simon for me, is arguably one of the most exciting young DJ/producers of our time and a DJ I know that our Slinky faithful are really looking forward to seeing.

“Also, as it’s our 16th Birthday we are also releasing an album to remember this massive occasion. Myself and Dav Gomrass will be playing back to back for the last hour of the event and this is being recorded live together with crowd noise and being released at the end of May.

“I am hoping we don’t make any mistakes and the crowd stays until the end, like they usually do and support us.”

l JOIN Special Branch tonight as they welcome Paul Daley, one half of electronic group Leftfield at The Winchester.

This will be an extra special DJ set and the organisers are thrilled at the booking. A spokesman said: “As bold a statement as it is, there’s not a dance music aficionado alive that wouldn’t put Leftfield’s classic album ‘Leftism’ into their top ten most important musical moments ever.

“Music magazines fall over themselves to namecheck the band as electronica pioneers and the 1995 masterwork of techno, progressive and dub has been woven into the soundtrack to all our lives at one point or other.

“This will undoubtedly be a hugely important night for Special Branch, The Winchester and Bournemouth’s club scene.

Joining Paul Daley will be Stalker, Paul Moore, LA Williams, Pure Klass DJs and Paddy Thorne.
