WIMBORNE Minster provided the setting on Wednesday for a thanksgiving mass for Canon Allan Swain.

The former vicar at Holy Epiphany and St John’s Church, Moordown, passed away at Poole Hospital on April 2, at the age of 74.

After moving from his parish in Winchester, he was instituted into Holy Ephiphany on March 13, 1978 by the Bishop of Winchester, the Rt Rev John Taylor.

Around 160 people attended the Requiem Mass at the Minster, including Bishop of Sherborne Rt Rev Dr Graham Kings and Mr Swain’s long-standing friend Rev Paul Renyard.

The service was conducted by Rev David Paskins, Rector of Cranborne, assisted by Minster associate priest Rev Dr Brenda Gibson.

A keen ecumenical worker, Mr Swain lived in Wimborne and leaves his wife Angela, son Andrew and daughter Anna.
