INTERNATIONAL triple jumper Trecia Smith showed youngsters at Christchurch Infant School how it’s done, when she took part in a sponsored sporting event.
The Jamaican athlete, who trained with Olympic favourite Usain Bolt, paid a visit to the school as part of a Team Super Schools (TSS) fundraiser.
She cheered on the pupils as they took part in a sponsored series of activities, and then gave a demonstration of her triple jumping skills.
Children were also given the chance to have their photograph taken with the sporting star, and also each received a signed certificate for their efforts.
The event was held in place of the school’s annual sponsored bounce, and was deemed a huge success.
Headteacher Jane Ashenden said: “Children had a great time doing the exercises and asking lots of questions. The money raised will be shared between the school and Team Super Schools.“The school will use the monies raised to fund a computer program used throughout the school by the children, whilst TSS use it to support aspiring young athletes.”
Nearly 300,000 pupils have taken part in Team Super Schools events in the last four years, with more than £600,000 being raised for schools.
