FRIENDS of soldier Warren Jackson, who died in a motorcycling accident on Dorset’s A31 in 2011, will complete a cycle ride in his honour this summer.

Mr Jackson, known affectionately as Jacko, was a career soldier with almost 25 years service, including combat tours of Afghanistan and Iraq.

The father-of-two was a keen supporter of the Help for Heroes charity and a committee member at Wareham’s Sandmartins Activity Club, where his children attended.

Following his death, friends of the 43-year-old Royal Artillery Commando, who spent 14 years at Royal Marines Poole, organised a sponsored cycle ride around the Isle of Purbeck to raise funds for the two causes he supported.

Cycle ride organiser Keith Cranfield, who described Warren as a “great guy”, is hoping for a bumper turnout this year.

He said: “Jacko was a great supporter of Sandmartins through his fundraising activities. This event is designed to commemorate his hard work and to carry on the tradition of raising funds for a cause that was dear to his heart.”

This year’s 20 or 40-mile ride starts at The Purbeck School, Wareham, and finishes on Wareham Quay.

Mr Cranfield: “All sponsorship money collected by those taking part will be divided between Sandmartins and Help for Heroes. Jacko’s family also supports both causes mentioned.

“For this year another charity will be included and entrants will be given the opportunity of nominating a charity of their choice.

“A draw will be made to select the charity and an amount of £100 will be given from proceeds to the successful charity.”

The ride is set for 11am, June 23, and is open to anyone.
