Free Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra concert to kick off new Imax performance space
Two free concerts by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will mark the opening of the new public space where the IMAX now stands.
The BSO will put on two free concerts at 4pm and 8pm on June 29 to celebrate the opening of the new public space at Pier Approach.
Tickets will be allocated by a ballot and preference will be given to those living in the BH postcode.
Bournemouth council leader John Beesley said: “Our residents have been telling us for years that they hate the building and would like to see the sea views restored. I am therefore delighted that we have been able to fulfil these wishes and that the world-class Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will be celebrating this historic occasion with a free concert for the public to enjoy.”
Tickets to each performance are limited to four per household. You can enter the free ballot by visiting www.bsolive.com or by calling 01202 669925 from 10am on Monday April 15.
Dougie Scarfe, Chief Executive of the BSO said: “In its 120th anniversary year, the BSO is thrilled to be returning to appear in the very spot where it all started in 1893 – on Bournemouth seafront.
"This is a great moment for the town and its thriving cultural offer, and the Orchestra is delighted to be at the centre of the festivities.”
The free concerts will kick-start the beginning of a programme of free summer entertainment and events during July and August on the site. More details will be announced in May.

I hate to say this, but isn't this glorified tent going to block "that view" just as much as the Imax did?

.
After councillor's, council officers and their hangers on have helped themselves how many tickets will actually be available for the general public who paid to buy a building and then demolish it and who subsidise the BSO ?
.
Another shameless PR stunt

Very impressed with the Lowry painting used in the article. Thought he didn't stray further south than Salford, but he's done a good job of capturing the bustle of the Imax site.
Mind you, you wouldn't need to sell tickets for a 'Quo concert there.... you'd probably still be able to hear that OK from Meyrick Park... or beyond.......

The Ice Rink and the reef sort of backfired so, they may need something a bit different to explain the forthcoming 'comprehensive redevelopment' (flats).
Still with folk like Rational Being about they could claim that the sun will shine for extra 100 days once the flats are built and his little tail will start a waggin' in excitement.
Taking candy from a baby was how our US cousins refered to it.
