A RESIDENTS’ group at a Bournemouth beauty spot is setting up a privilege card scheme with shops and businesses.

The West Cliff Green Residents’ Association is making discounts available to its members with restaurants, pubs, takeaways and hotels among those joining in so far.

Chris Colledge, chairman of the association, said he is pleased that businesses are getting involved and is welcoming West Cliff residents and workers as new members to take advantage of the discounts.

He said: “It’s really exciting.

“It is a way of getting people to support local restaurants, hotels ,leisure facilities and in return they are giving something back to the community.”

Chris said businesses from around the Bournemouth area are welcome to get involved.

He added: “We are preserving the green and that’s why we do the litter picks and try to prevent anti-social behaviour so that people aren’t put off coming here.”

The scheme is being started by vice chairman John Taylor, manager at the Savoy Hotel, where a launch meeting is being held on Saturday, March 9 at 11am.

Mr Taylor also lives on the West Cliff and hopes the scheme can help to bring the community together.

He said: “Flats can be lonely places and we are saying if you fancy a coffee you can pop out to somewhere local.

“It’s about people getting to know each other and getting out of their flats.”
