HEATHLAND was destroyed by arsonists near Wareham.

A Dorset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said they were called out to Stoborough to battle a fire covering two-and-a-half hectares of heathland and small trees which were destroyed at 3.30pm on Saturday.

She said 26 fire fighters extinguished the blaze using beaters.

This is really awful. Wasn't there a series of arson related fires last year as well? As a frequent visitor to the area I think it is a real shame that some people cannot appreciate the beauty of the place, not forgetting the obvious danger to people and the fire service personnel.
