A POOLE mum will be stepping out to take part in this year’s Race for Life with a shaven head to raise much-needed funds for Cancer Research UK.

Brittany Smith, 21, will be losing her red shoulder-length locks on the morning of the Poole Park event on June 23 and hopes to donate them to a wig-making firm for cancer patients.

She will then take part in the 5km women-only event with five-month-old daughter Acacia.

This will be the third Race for Life event Brittany has taken part in.

Brittany, of Denmark Road, said: “We lost my nan three years ago and shortly after that we lost my mother-in-law to cancer. This had quite an impact on me and gave me the inspiration I needed to sign up.

“I think Race for Life is incredible and it is so exciting to see everyone together and united.”

Brittany said she came up with the head shave idea to help boost her fundraising after seeing firsthand the work carried out at Southampton Cancer Research Centre.

She said: “It was absolutely incredible to see where our money actually goes. We got to look at the equipment and talk to the top specialists who are all working towards finding a cure for cancer.”
