BEEF contaminated with horsemeat has never been on the menu at a Wimborne comprehensive school.

Queen Elizabeth school is supplied by catering company Sodexo who have withdrawn frozen beef products from sale following shock DNA test results.

But QE business manager Kevin Brougham insisted that none of the frozen products had ever been served up in school dinners.

Mr Brougham said: “QE has a long-standing relationship with Sodexo. We have led the way in creating a good restaurant culture with meals freshly prepared.

“Sodexo have kept us fully informed of their concerns and investigations. We have identified a range of frozen beef products which have been withdrawn. None of these are, or were, on the QE menu.

“We have a policy of using local produce where possible. We are very sure of our food sources but, along with Sodexo, we are not complacent.”

He added that the school would continue to be supplied by Sodexo.

Earlier this month Dorset County Council launched an investigation to determine whether horsemeat had been used in school dinners.

Hampshire County Council confirmed that none of the food served in the schools or council care homes they are responsible for had been affected.

Sue Burley, catering manager for Mouchel/Bournemouth council, said: “I can confirm that we do not have any contracts with Sodexo for our central primary schools meals contract or care homes.”

Cllr Peter Adams, who has responsibility for social care at Borough of Poole, said: “The council supplies meals to eight schools. All the meat used in the preparation of these meals is locally sourced and supplied by an accredited and approved supplier. We do not use any processed meat and all meat is supplied fresh and prepared in our own kitchen.

“Sedexo do not supply catering services to any school in Poole. To further reassure parents we are currently asking all suppliers and working with all schools to provide absolute clarity about where they source their food products from.”

A Sodexo spokesperson said: “We have notified the FSA of our findings and will assist fully in its investigation. We have also launched our own investigation.”

Dorset County Council confirmed that QE is the only school in the council area which Sodexo supplies.
