IT WAS supposed to have been held last autumn but bad weather led to the fundraising Walk for Wildlife having to be postponed.

Now a new date has been set for the popular Dorset Wildlife Trust trek on the Jurassic Coast and organisers are hoping Sunday, April 7 will dawn fair.

The annual fundraising walk raises vital funds to help wildlife on land and sea, while walkers enjoy some of the county’s most spectacular scenery.

“Our wildlife is extremely vulnerable, whether from threats on land or at sea, such as the current seabird contamination,” said Nicky Hoar, communications officer.

“Walk for Wildlife is a wonderful way for people to help us protect the nature we all love and to discover it for themselves with routes that take in the Jurassic coast.”

There is a choice of three routes – seven 14 or 22 miles. Each goes through Durlston Country Park and past Anvil Point lighthouse.

The seven-mile route extends to Dancing Ledge while the 14-mile route takes in St Aldhelms Head. There are special early bird prices of £12 per adult and £3 per child or £25 for a family, for those booking before March 1.

“We hope as many people as possible will take this opportunity to raise sponsorship too, so that your friends, and family can do their bit,” said Nicky.

The walk starts at Leeson House, Langton Matravers, with registration from 7am. Prices from March 1 or on the day are £15 per adult, £5 per child or £35 for a family. Visit dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk/walkforwildlife or call 01305 264620.
