ICY roads have caused three collisions across Dorset this morning.

The A350 Blandford Road North at Limberlost was partially blocked due to a two-vehicle collision at 7.35am.

The fire service were called to the scene as one of the vehicles was smoking and ambulance were also called to treat minor injuries.

Recovery was organised for both vehicles and the local authority was called to deal with debris on the roads.

They were also asked to re-grit.

A four-vehicle collision also took place at Station Road in West Moors at the same time.

Ambulance were called to treat the motorcyclist, who was complaining of aches and pains but was conscious and breathing.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said ice caused the motorcyclist to come off his bike, a Kawasaki ZR750 J6F.

The road was closed between the junction of Pinehurst Road and Station Road.

The local authority was again called to grit the road and deal with a fuel spillage. The road was closed until lunchtime while waiting for a gritter.

And a car overturned on the A352 at East Stoke near Wareham just after 7.30am.

The incident took place near the Binnegar Lane junction, with the car rolling off the road into a field, ending up on its side.

Traffic was reportedly at a standstill as a result of the collision.

The 18-year-old female driver of the black Ford KA was conscious and talking and paramedics put a neck brace on her as a precaution.

She suffered minor injuries.

The road was re-gritted.

A Dorset County Council spokesman said their fleet of gritters went out at 7pm on Wednesday covering “the strategic network of roads”.

She said it was decided that there was no need to grit again this morning, except for a small number of areas where “spot gritting” took place.

What's a "motorcyclict"?

I presume the council's usual lack of gritting, coupled with not driving with the conditions in mind caused these incidents....

There was someone yesterday talking about a Suzuki 750 gsx/wtf and when i questioned if it was one of these mopeds that weave in and out of traffic someone had it removed,i wonder who and why? Watch this space LOL

It's winter. It gets cold at night. Therefore you may encounter ice. Drive to the conditions and you will be ok.

The will always be those who don't think about the conditions and carry on as normal. For example, I have a neighbour who uses water to clear his frosty car windscreen, which of course then freezes in puddles in front of the other cars parked there. If just ONE idiot stopped and thought about what they were doing it might stop at least one accident.
I would just like to point out I'm not saying that these and any other accidents were caused by idiots, it's just my view as a driver that there are too many out there.
Hope Shirley wasn't hurt too badly ;)

To the dumb **** driving the white VW van in Gore Road, New Milton this morning at about 7.15am who was impatiently tailgating me in my Peugeot, did you nor realise that the road was icy and had not be salted/gritted?

Try engaging your brain before you start driving next time!

I think too many posting here only drive armchairs on a winters morning!
Trunk routes and A roads should be treated and safe to drive at normal road speeds on a frosty morning, after all there is nothing unusual about a frosty morning in winter. The alternative is that whenever the temp is less than 3c we all drive at less than 10mph on 60mph roads just in case there is black ice, given that black ice can have you off the road at any speed, even well below 30mph.
Of course dangerous road conditions can be obvious... but this isn't always the case.
