Most Tragic Apology

It was one of the OMG moments of 2012 when Kristen Stewart got caught cheating on Robert Pattinson. Kristen, 22, was photographed kissing her Show White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, a married father-of-two.

The actress made a grovelling public apology to her Twilight co-star Rob in the form of a statement. It read: “I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected.

“This momentary indiscretion has jeopardised the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”

Poor R-Patz.

Best Cry Face

We love Claire Danes and it’s fair to say as the former CIA agent Carrie Mathison in Homeland she cries A LOT - and who can blame her?

We’ve seen bipolar sufferer Carrie pushed close to the edge numerous times in 2012 as she *spoiler alert* tried to protect the US from terrorist attacks and wrestled with her emotions for suspected al-Qaeda terrorist Brody.

There are Tumblr’s, Pinterest boards and even a YouTube video dedicated to just how brilliant Claire Danes is at putting on the waterworks in her full lip-quivering, face crumpled glory.

Dance Craze of the Year

Madonna did it. Damien Lewis did it. Even Boris Johnson told delegates at the Conservative party conference that he and David Cameron had done it.

We’re talking Gangnam Style of course and Korean popstar Psy’s video has become the first video on YouTube to surpass a billion views. Everyone from kids to grannies logged on to master those frankly ridiculous moves.

The What the... Award

Rihanna’s 777 Tour probably sounded a really good idea at the time. The R&B megastar went on a round-the-world tour in November to promote her album, Unapologetic, taking 310 ‘lucky’ competition winners and 150 journalists along for the ride on the Boeing 777 - but it was a PR disaster.

Those on board complained of lack of sleep, food and lack of access to the singer, with many angry passengers taking to Twitter to tell just how bad things were.

Trends We Hope Would Go Away Award

Buttocks were everywhere in 2012. The trend for wearing micro denim shorts that didn’t entirely cover your behind was all too popular and we’d like to think it won’t return for 2013. Rihanna, we hold you entirely responsible.

Thing We’d Like To Do Again Next Year

The Olympics. What else? We laughed, we cried, we felt inspired and witnessed some truly amazing things.  In the office, on the street, on Twitter, all people were talking about was how amazing London 2012 was.

From the spine-tingling opening ceremony, to Super Saturday when Jess, Mo and Greg struck gold to Bert Le Clos’ hilarious and touching interview with Claire Balding; there were so many magic moments and we still miss it.

View some of our favourite tweets from the night of the opening ceremony when those on Twitter realised they were watching a once in a lifetime event.
