MEMBERS of a Bournemouth Rotary Club have been spreading some Christmas cheer, handing out presents to some of the town’s most vulnerable people.

The North Bournemouth Rotary Club distributed presents, including toys, sweets, books and clothes, to BCHA projects in Bournemouth.

Presents were shared between three schemes – a hostel for young people aged 16 – 24, a mother and baby unit for young mums and the Women’s Domestic Abuse Refuge.

North Bournemouth Rotary Club spent over £1,250 on these gifts, raising the money through supermarket collections and a Santa’s grotto.

Malcolm Jefferies, of the club, said: “Our club’s aim is to raise funds in Bournemouth and to make sure we help needy causes in Bournemouth. All the money raised goes into local projects to help people, and not one penny goes in expenses.”

Lorna Trent, BCHA’s fundraising manager, said: “We would like to thank North Bournemouth Rotary Club for their generosity.

Our service users were absolutely thrilled with the gifts they received – many people come to us with very little, or sometimes only the clothes they are wearing, so to be able to provide them with these gifts around the Christmas period can make a massive difference to someone.”
