DORSET Police are calling on victims of domestic violence to speak out and not suffer in silence this Christmas.

Incidents of abuse in the home traditionally increase over the Christmas and New Year period and officers are warning offenders their actions will not be tolerated.

Detective Chief Inspector John Gately said: “Anyone who commits domestic violence will not only face a possible prison sentence, but they will also have to live with the stigma of being an offender of this appalling crime.

“Over the festive season, we will have extra officers available to investigate these types of offences and to check on prolific domestic violence offenders to ensure they are not committing further offences.

“The cycle of domestic violence can only be broken if people come forward and report it.

It is so important that victims do not suffer in silence.

“If you are a victim, or if you know someone who you believe is suffering domestic violence, please come forward and report it to the police so that we can take immediate action.

Dorset Police has experienced and specially-trained officers to investigate domestic violence offences and support victims.

Domestic violence is the subject behind door 21 of the interactive Dorset Police advent calendar, which is supported by the Daily Echo.
