BIG-HEARTED Poole supermarket customers have donated more than 4,000 meals for people in need in just one weekend.
Tesco’s Branksome store was one of nearly 900 branches across the country that took part in the supermarket giant’s ‘Help Feed People in Need’ initiative.
The retailer joined forces with food bank charity, The Trussell Trust, and food distribution charity FareShare to collect 1,000 tonnes of food nationwide.
This, the equivalent of two million meals, has been described as the largest ever food collection ever in the UK.
Shoppers at the Branksome store donated 4,026 meals, which will go to people in need across the country.
Store manager Matt Puryer said: “We are delighted the people of Poole have come out to support this vital cause.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by customer generosity and hopefully the food collected will go some way to help people less fortunate this Christmas. Thank you so much for all the support.”
The food was collected over one weekend earlier this month.
