A 21-YEAR-OLD recruit from Bournemouth is setting sail on a new career after completing his Royal Navy basic training at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.

Trainee Engineering Technician Ryan Jessé arrived at the training base in September and during a 10-week course he has been given a thorough induction into the Royal Navy.

The course culminates with the passing-out-parade attended by families and friends.

The former Portchester pupil previously worked as a bartender.

He said: “I joined the Royal Navy for the challenge, a change of lifestyle, promotion and career prospects.

“I also wanted to be part of the British Senior Service and travel the world.

“The training has been physically and mentally draining, but the sense of achievement is well worth it. I would like to climb the ranks of promotion as my career progresses.”

With the first phase of his training complete Ryan is heading to HMS Sultan, where he will learn the skills in marine engineering to keep the ship running smoothly, safely and effectively.
