POLICE have warned anyone causing trouble in Bournemouth town centre this Christmas they will find themselves in a police cell.

The message comes from Bournemouth central neighbourhood Inspector Dean O’Connor as part of the force’s ongoing Operation Protect campaign, which aims to reduce night-time economy violence in Dorset.

Posters have been placed in bars and clubs in the town warning revellers that alcohol makes them more likely to become a victim or an offender of crime.

Insp O’Connor said: “I want people coming into Bourne-mouth town centre for a night out during the festive season to enjoy their evening safely.

“Alcohol-related violence will not be tolerated and anyone causing trouble should expect to be dealt with accordingly.

“I would encourage people not to drink to the point where it affects their decision making.

“All too often we have to arrest people in the town centre who have had too much to drink and decide to cause trouble or get into fights.

“People have been left with extremely serious injuries as a result of drunken violence, so it is important we do everything we can to reduce these offences.”

Night-time economy violence is behind day 14 of the Dorset Police interactive advent calendar, which aims to tackle a different crime prevention message in the run-up to Christmas.
