Drivers are being warned of icy conditions for the rest of the week as temperatures drop to -2C.

Many roads across the county are still wet from the flooding caused by the weekend's heavy rains and ice caused a series of crashes yesterday.

This morning a car overturned on an icy road B3082 Blandford Road, near Queen Elizabeth School, Hillbutts, Wimborne.

The ambulance also attended and the council was called as the road was “extremely icy”, according to a Dorset Police spokesperson.

All parties were out of the vehicle but the road was completely blocked. The car was a green Vauxhall Corsa, registered to a Bournemouth woman.

The fire service was also called due to fuel on the road, which is due to be reopened shortly.
No-one was injured.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for today and Friday, which says: "Due to the recent wet weather there is an increased risk of icy patches, even on roads that have been treated with salt, where water run off/seepage may wash off any earlier salt treatment."

Gritters will be out on the roads this evening from 5pm in Hampshire and 6.30pm in Dorset, but the authorities are warning drivers to take extra care. Don't assume your road is safe just because it has been gritted.

Dorset's gritters will be swinging into action again tonight. They'll be spreading salt across the county from about 6.30pm #dorsetgrit
