UPDATED: The Jacksons bring tour to Bournemouth
THE most famous family in pop is heading to Bournemouth.
The surviving members of the Jackson 5 will play the BIC on March 2 as part of their Unity tour.
It's the first time the brothers have hit the UK in 28 years. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am and priced at £35 to £50.
Gail Collins, of BH Live, said: “It’s been nearly three decades since the Jackson’s last concert tour so we are really excited that they are coming to the BIC with their Unity Tour on 2 March 2, 2013. I can only imagine that Bournemouth’s message to the Jackson’s is I’ll Be There!”
The Jacksons – Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and Tito – first achieved international superstardom with their late brother Michael in the 1970s and became the first group ever to have their first four singles hit No1 on the Billboard Charts.
Throughout a four-decade long career, the group had a huge impact on music and pop culture and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
Jackie Jackson said: "This is a dream coming true. I can't believe this is finally happening."
“There’s nothing like having all the brothers on stage at the same time. This will be exciting for our fans around the world - and I know at each concert, MJ's spirit will be in the house with us.”
The tour will also pay tribute to Michael, who passed away in 2009, in a special section of the show.
Jermaine Jackson added: "“I am so happy and excited to perform again onstage with my brothers.”
“I can't wait to sing all the songs that were so much a part of all of our lives. We are ready and committed to keep the family’s legacy alive and perform once again with the highest level of excellence, creativity, and most of all, integrity,” he said.
The Jackson 5 has played in the area before with a show at the Poole Arts Centre in 1979. Michael Jackson also made another visit to the region in 1981, to Beaulieu to visit Lord Montagu. He was accompanied, bizarrely, by the entertainer Liberace.

Jacksons were ok in the 70s, and Michael did better than the rest, but apart from him, they ain't squat IMO. For all the troubles in his later years he was the only one who actually made decent enough stuff. The others - what have they done?
Nowt that I know of!

KLH wrote:Very fair comment, Michael was a disaster zone and still had the ability to create some good stuff. As for the others, I have no idea what they can offer Bournemouth, other than trading off their deceased brother.
Jacksons, good music - give me some good classic rock any day, now THAT is music!

I saw the Who five years ago, ageing, struggling a bit, depleted, and with their fair share of baggage - absolutely brilliant.
