A MAN who says he was bitten by a dog on a Poole beach has warned others to be on the lookout.

David New, 71, said he was cycling along the prom near Branksome Chine when a black and white terrier ran up and bit his leg.

He did not need treatment, but said that dog owners needed to be more responsible. David, who has dogs in his own family, added: “There was a woman and who I think was her mother sat near the restaurant. A little black and white terrier of theirs came running after me and bit my leg.

“I said to her that dogs should be on a lead and asked her for her name and address but she wouldn’t give it to me.

“I called the police but by the time they arrived they had gone. It could be a child in the future and I had no apology or anything.”

David has appealed to dog owners to keep a closer eye on their pets and for the public to be aware of dogs that are not on leads. Police confirmed that the incident was reported to them.
