Motorists faced delays this morning after a collision between a car and motorbike at Gravel Hill in Merley - followed by a fallen tree at the same spot.

The collision took place at the junction of the A341 Queen Anne Drive around 7.40am.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said the incident had caused delays to motorists throughout the area.

Diversions were put in place with road closures put on at Oakley Hill roundabout, southbound from Wimborne to Gravel Hill.

Police also closed the road at Queen Anne Drive, later moving the road closure to Arrowsmith Road to ease the congestion.

The motorcyclist was conscious and breathing but suffered head and facial injuries.

He was taken to Poole General Hospital by ambulance.

Recovery was arranged for both vehicles - a blue Yamaha motorcycle registered to a Wimborne man and a silver Mercedes A140 registered to a Wimborne woman.

The local authority was called to clear the road of debris.

The accident had just been cleared when a tree fell in the same spot.

Police put on a road closure between Queen Anne Drive and Merley roundabout in the Ringwood direction for the fallen tree.

Traffic travelling in the Poole direction was unaffected.

The local authority was called to deal with the tree which had fallen across the road.

A fallen tree was also blocking Lymington Road at Highcliffe outside the golf club this morning. Drivers stopped to saw sections from the trunk to clear the road. The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the rest of the week.
