A COLLISION between a lorry and a car is causing huge traffic problems on the A348 Ringwood Road in Bournemouth.

An articulated lorry was involved in a collision with a Citroen Picasso car at the West Howe roundabout just before 9am this morning.

Amazingly, neither the 31-year-old lorry driver, or the 64-year-old grandfather and his nine-year-old grandaughter who were in the Citroen were seriously injured.

The lorry is currently blocking one side of Ringwood Road and traffic is being diverted between Bear Cross and the West Howe roundabout.

The carriageway is set to be closed for some time as specialist recovery equipment needs to be brought in to remove the lorry, which is stuck on a concrete pillar.

The emergency services went to the scene at the Poole Lane roundabout, but there were no reports of serious injuries.

The delivery driver is said to be extremely shaken by the incident and the 64-year-old Citroen driver has been taken to Poole Hospital to be checked over.

Damage to the white Mercedes tractor articulated lorry, registered to a Milton Keynes company, caused fuel to pour out on to the highway.

The council and firefighters are on the scene, working to clear the fuel from the road using sand and foam.

The Environment Agency also attended and the road was closed at 9.06. It is likely to remain closed for some time.
