AN EIGHT-year-old boy has won a whopping 13.5 stone pumpkin for Halloween, thanks to a competition run for charity.

Archie Cox, eight, entered a ‘guess the weight of the pumpkin’ draw, which was held at the Angel Inn, at Longham, in aid of local cause, Naomi House.

Entry was just £1 per guess and it is believed that over £50 has been raised thanks to draw.

The idea for the competition came from Kevin, 27, and Robyn Aggett, 22, from West Moors, after Robyn’s grandparents, Fred and Barbara Frown, grew the giant pumpkin, which weighs 13.5 stone, and is seven feet in circumference, on their farm in St Leonards.

They didn’t know what to do with it, so it was offered to Kevin and Robyn, who put it up for the charity sale.

Kevin said: “This pumpkin is such a massive thing.”

He added: “Over about two or three weeks, we took down guesses for its weight, whilst it was left in the pub for people to see, and make their estimate.

“I think that people just couldn’t believe it, and there were a lot who just wanted to stand next to it and have their picture taken with it.

“The little boy Archie who won it, was absolutely ecstatic.

“He said that he was particularly pleased, because he had cut out a pumpkin last year, and placed it on their bin for people to see, but someone had stolen it.

“I don’t think that they will find this one so easy to pick up.”
