A POOLE residential home held a service of thanksgiving to celebrate its 40th anniversary – with some of the 80 guests having also been there at the start.

Maidment Court in Parkstone Road was originally opened in 1972 by then Secretary of State for Social Service Sir Keith Joseph and was extended in 1998 to increase its capacity.

The Methodist Housing Association home was named after the family that left the land and resources to finance it.

George Maidment and his son Frank were businessmen and Methodists who wanted to do something with their estates that would benefit the community.

The Rev Dr Keith Alban, director of chaplaincy and spirituality for the MHA, led the service. Home manager Dorota Soanes said: "It was wonderful to welcome our volunteers, supporters, staff of MHA and our local Methodist connections to give thanks for the care and love that has been shown in this building for 40 years."
