YOUNG Samantha Milton and her pals have decided to clean up in more ways than one.

The Poole schoolgirl has joined forces with friends Isobel and Charlotte Turner to sell homemade soap for cancer charities.

But what sets the trio apart from other charity fundraisers is they’re all just nine years old.

Samantha’s mum Sarah Milton told the Daily Echo: “The girls came up with the idea themselves.

“It really has been driven by them, which is something to be proud of.”

The youngsters decided to act after Samantha’s grandfather lost his brief fight against cancer earlier this year.

He died just five weeks after being diagnosed.

Sarah, of Bright Road, Oakdale, said: “They’d first started to make soap from a kit Sammy got for her birthday then, sadly, my dad was diagnosed with cancer and died in June.

“So they started to make soaps and sell them at school, with donations going to cancer charities.

“Then in September after my mum had a mammogram, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.”

As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the children decided to create special pink, heart-shaped soap to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer.

“I have to say, if it wasn’t for that mammogram my mother would have never known about the cancer,” said Sarah.

Sarah believes the soap making has helped Samantha comes to terms with losing her grandfather.

“It is nice that something positive like this has come from something so negative.”

So far the girls, who are working on Halloween and Christmas soap, have raised around £100 for charity.
