POLICE have warned homeowners not to hide spare keys outside their properties after a burglary in Dorset.
Officers were called to an address in Sherborne earlier this week after the occupant reported a break-in.
The victim had gone for a walk. When they returned, they noticed bins and other items at the side of the house had been moved.
The victim then noticed the back door and patio door were wide open.
PCSO Mark Jones from the Sherborne Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "During the occupier’s absence an unknown person had gained entry to their home by using a spare set of keys they had left secreted in the garden.
"Fortunately, nothing was taken."
He urged residents not to leave spare keys outside in sheds or garages.
