HUNDREDS of people attended Purbeck's annual Classic Vehicle Gala throughout the weekend.

The three-day event, organised by the Bournemouth & Poole Preservation Club (BPPC) and supported by Swanage Railway, included more than 400 displays of vintage vehicles, motorcycles, tractors, classic cars and commercial vehicles at Harmans Cross, near Swanage.

Gary Baker, from BPPC, told the Daily Echo: "As we run this in conjunction with the Swanage Railway, every time a train comes in we've had good numbers through the gate - so we are very pleased.

"All the money made from this event goes towards the Swanage Railway, that is what it is about."

Mr Baker said crowd favourites included a steam roller, and a range of military vehicles from World War II up until relatively modern times.

He added: "We've just had about 40 motorcycles arrive from a Dorset club, and they were of all ages.

"Meanwhile, the selection of cars we've had has also been amazing. We've had everything from the 1920s onwards.

"The limit here has been that they have to be over twenty years old. We are very pleased how Sunday has gone."

BPPC was founded in 1979 and has more than 175 members, who meet at Hamworthy Social Club, at 8pm, on the second Thursday of each month.

A club spokesman said: "We are always pleased to welcome new members. Anyone who has an interest in days gone by, or owns a classic car, bike, tractor, engine or collections will be more than welcome at any of our events."
