The Daily Echo Local Hero Awards 2016: Who will you nominate?

Do you know a hero in your local community? Someone who has gone above and beyond to help someone in need? If so then we want to hear from you.

Today The Daily Echo is launching a new campaign to give readers the opportunity to nominate local unsung heroes for a special award.

Heroes can appear in many forms. It could be through a single act such as rescuing someone from a dangerous situation without a thought for their own safety to a lifetime of commitment to volunteer work.

But many of these individuals don’t receive the recognition they deserve which is why the Daily Echo is organising the Local Hero Awards 2016. There are ten categories to choose from to ensure every area is covered.

The categories are:

1. Carer of the year

2. Contributor to local sport

3. Charity fundraiser

4. Bravery award

5. Community hero

6. Volunteer of the year

7. Lifetime achievement

8. Animal champion

9. Emergency services hero

You can use the form below to nominate your hero.

Heroes shortlisted for the awards will be invited to a gala dinner taking place on November 10 at AFC Bournemouth where the winners will be announced and trophies presented.

Angela Boyer, the Daily Echo's sales and events manager, said: "We appreciate that many of these ‘heroes’ don’t do what they do for recognition – however, recognition is what they deserve, so don’t hesitate in telling us their stories. Please include as much information as possible, including names and contact details of those who can collaborate your nomination."

Terms and conditions: 

Acts of heroism need to be relatively recent and to have taken place on or after September 2 2015. The closing date for entries is October 19.
