CHRISTMAS in Christchurch promises to be bigger and better than ever this year, as the Regent Centre is hosting a Christmas Spectacular 2014.

This cracker of a show aims to fill everyone with the true spirit of Christmas.

Following the huge success of previous years, The Regent Centre is delighted to bring everyone a brand new festive feast filled with comedy, dance and music all performed by The Glad Rag Production Company. Christmas Spectacular 2014 is a joint promotion by the Glad Rag Production Company and the Regent Centre and this year there will be no less than ten terrific performances to choose from.

Curtain up for Christmas Spectacular 2014 at the Regent will be from Saturday to Wednesday at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

This festive show will entertain all the family with its star studded line up of dazzling dancers, stunning showgirls, sumptuous costumes, sensational singers, Christmas choirs, comedy elves and even the dancing polar bears.

Once again audiences will be dazzled by the lavish costumes designed and created by Sue Simmerling, wowed by the sparkling production numbers that have become a trademark of this talented company and delighted by the festive fun that makes this production the best winter warmer in town.

The plot sees Santa is preparing for another Christmas with the assistance of his sensational singers and stunning dancers.

As always Spud and Sprout, the elves, will be on hand to cause a little chaos and Benji and Bruce, the polar bears, are bound to have to save the day again and ensure that everyone can experience a little Christmas magic right here in Christchurch.

However, before that can happen there is a festive killjoy on the loose.

Gregory Thriftpenny and his fiendish little Elf, Pumpkin, have come to the North Pole to turn Santa’s Workshop into a multi-national business and threaten to turn the magical Christmas we all know and love into a cold-hearted, commercial business plan.

Can Benji and Bruce, the Polar Bears, save Christmas again, or will Gregory ruin Christmas for all of us?

The show is a fabulous musical blend of up-beat dance routines, popular ballads, Christmas favourites and West End showstoppers, all performed by theatre professionals and the pick of local entertainers.

The music includes traditional Christmas songs like Deck The Halls, Winter Wonderland, Here comes Santa Claus, Cee Lo Green’s What Christmas Means To Me and Christmas Eve With You from Glee. Traditional children’s favourites like Frosty The Snowman and Suzy Snowflake are mixed with songs from the new musical, Elf, which premieres in Plymouth this month.

Christmas Spectacular 2014 has once again been written and directed by Helen Barrington of New Milton.

Helen has directed over forty musical shows, pantomimes, revues and youth productions.

The spectacular costumes have been designed by Sue Simmerling and created by Carry On Costumes in New Milton.

Many of Sue’s fantastic costumes have adorned smash West End musicals over the years and have also gone overseas with the show teams on cruise liners.

The choreography for Christmas Spectacular 2014 has been created by Carly Simmerling and musical direction is by Kamya Rawstron Brake.

There are also 32 local children in the Glad Rag Company this year, who were chosen from auditions held at the Regent in August.
