FUNNYMAN Lee Mack brings his cheeky northern charm to the Bournemouth BIC this week.

The multi-talented comic has turned his hand to writing, acting and become a panel show favourite with his quick-fire gags and banter.

His hunger to entertain is infectious and he is on a high after announcing that his award-winning self-penned hit sitcom Not Going Out will be returning for a seventh series.

His double-act with one-liner king Tim Vine has been a rare mainstream success in an era of ever edgier comedy. He is by no means old fashioned, but his humour is intelligent, under-pinned by natural quick-wittedness and doesn’t resort to the fashionable shock tactics of many.

Mack’s appeal is not restricted to any one group and those in the crowds at his gigs span a wide demographic. Not Going Out has now been sold to 120 countries.

The unlikely chemistry between Lee and faux adversary David Mitchell on BBC favourite Would I Lie To You? has also propelled him into the consciousness of living rooms around the country.

He has frequently appeared on Have I Got News for You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Live at The Apollo, QI, Jonathan Ross and The Royal Variety.

However, he is no overnight sensation, emerging from a broken home in Lancashire and slogging away on the open mic scene before regularly hitting television screens for the first time at the start of the last decade.

The show is part of his tour Hit the Road Mack which will, remarkably, be his first major outing on the stand-up circuit in four years.

With his near constant presence on our screens since then audiences can expect him to have built up a stock of new material and be as sharp as ever.

He has reached a stage in his life where it would appear easy to take a step back, but his relentless energy keeps him going and the crowds in the Windsor Hall will be in for treat.

  • Lee Mack will be at the BIC between September 24 and 26.
